South Paulding High School Criminal Justice Essentials, Forensic Science classes and Skills USA teamed together to attend the “Journey Through Justice” program on September 13, 2016 sponsored by the Georgia State Bar Association. The students received an overview of Constitutional Law including the Bill of Rights and then answered questions applying what they had learned to various scenarios. Each student passed the “Bar Exam” becoming honorary certificated attorneys.
After passing the “Bar Exam” the students were put to the test for their first civil mock trial: Big Bad Wolf (BB Wolf) v. Curly Pig. SPHS student Alyssa Jones represented Curly Pig, (Adrian Rivera), while an actual attorney represented BB Wolf, (Jeremy Wear). Curly Pig’s witnesses consisted of Pinocchio, (Jason Clark), and Miss Piggy, (Courtni Schoolcraft), while The Old Woman in a Shoe, (Kenzie Hagerty), and Sylvester the Cat, (Conner Martella) were witnesses for BB Wolf. John Azuara, the bailiff, kept the court in order. The remainder of the SPHS students served as jurors for this “sizzling” civil trial.
After completing the trial, SPHS students were treated to a visit to the World of Justice Museum with tells and explanations of the Lizzy Borden trials and the infamous Wayne Williams cases.
