(Paulding County, GA) In a ceremony held at the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday October 20, 2016 Deputy Jamie Winkles and Deputy Jared Gunter were awarded the Life Saving Award by Sheriff Gary Gulledge. On hand at the ceremony were numerous Deputies and their families.
On July 25, 2016 Deputy Winkles and Deputy Gunter responded to a possible overdose call where a male was possibly in cardiac arrest. Upon arrival, Deputy Gunter confirmed that the male was unconscious and in cardiac arrest. He then administered one dose of Narcan to the patient which initially had no effect. When Deputy Winkles arrived a short time later, he immediately began Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Deputy Gunter got Deputy Winkles assigned dose of Narcan and administered it to the patient. Once the patient got the second dose of Narcan and received CPR, he regained consciousness.
As soon as Fire Rescue and EMS personnel arrived on scene, the male patient was stabilized and subsequently transported to a local hospital where he eventually made a full recovery. Medical professionals later stated that without the quick lifesaving actions that Deputy Winkles and Deputy Gunter performed, the patient would likely have perished.
Sheriff Gary Gulledge remarked, “I am thankful to have Deputies like Deputy Winkles and Deputy Gunter. They did their job and saved the life of one of our citizens. I know I, along with the victim and his family are eternally grateful for what they do for our citizens and our county.” Congratulations and excellent work on a job well done!
