Sheffield Lane Aggravated Assault/Cruelty To Children

(Paulding County, GA) On January 19, 2017 at approximately 1726 hours Deputies responded to Fire Station 9, which is in southern Paulding County, reference an assault that had just occurred. At that same time, a neighbor called Paulding E-911 reference an assault that had just occurred on Sheffield Lane where a father struck his son in the head with a shovel as a result of an argument. Once the suspect fled the scene after the assault, a Good Samaritan brought the 15 year old juvenile black male victim to Fire Station 9 where Fire/EMS personnel began treating him.
The incident took place at 33 Sheffield Lane Powder Springs, GA in the Sheffield Farms Subdivision which is within Paulding County. This subdivision is across the street from Taylor Farm Park. EMS personnel took the juvenile victim to an Atlanta area hospital where his injuries are being treated. At the time of the incident, the juvenile’s injuries were considered critical. As of now, we do not have an update on his status but can confirm that he is still in the hospital.
The father/suspect, who has been identified as Aaron Clark Buchanan, B/M, 52 YOA, was arrested without incident in Cobb County last night. Buchanan was charged with Cruelty to Children 1st Degree (F), and Aggravated Assault (F). He is currently being held without bond in the Paulding County Detention Center.
