BoC Approve Senior Administrator, Budget Amendments

Paulding’s Board of Commissioners last week approved the appointment of Angelia Farries to serve as the Senior Administrative Assistant to Commission Chairman David Carmichael during their regular session.
Paulding commissioners had approved a revised job description for an executive assistant and county clerk, but tabled another item to do the same for a senior administrative assistant for the chairman, until finalizing their process in May. Interviews were held through the summer.
Ms. Farries was chosen from a pool of applicants and comes to the job with an MBA from Brenau University. Farries worked for IBM for 16 years as a project manager and at Chattahoochee Tech for four years, most recently as director of corporate training.

COUNTY ADMINSTRATOR
Paulding commissioners are also discussing the addition of a county administrator. The Chairman’s nomination of Frank Baker to the position will be further considered during the BoC’s next regular meeting next month.
Post Commissioners said in February that they wanted to better clarify the duties and job description for a ‘county operations manager’ before they approved that position and voted to start the Human Resources department to work on the description, salary range, and job posting for the position.
Since starting as Chairman in January Carmichael has pushed for the position to be filled to the post commissioners, who had voted to defund the position last year.
The job of County Administrator was formerly held by Michael Jones who left during the 2nd term of David Austin.
According to Carmichael over 120 other Georgia counties use a county administrator to help with daily operations. Carmichael also commented earlier this year that funding opportunities for the county will be lost without a higher profile representation from the Commission Chairman in the state and the region. Adding back an administrator would free up the Chairman to better pursue that representation, he said.
