ETOWAH CHAPTER NATIONAL SOCIETY DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION HONORS AMERICAN REVOLUTION WAR SOLDIER WITH WREATH LAYING CEREMONY

wreathA wreath-laying ceremony honoring American Revolutionary War Soldier and Patriot, Leonard Wills, was held on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Dallas, Ga. Charlotte Turner Berry, Librarian, Etowah Chapter, Georgia State Society Daughters of the American Revolution partnered with the Captain John Collins Chapter, Georgia State Sons of the American Revolution for this event. Inspiring remarks were given by Brenda Davison Jessel, State Registrar, Georgia State Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Wayne L. Brown, President, Georgia State Sons of the American Revolution and Charlotte Josephine Christian, Northwest District Director, Georgia State Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Mr. David Jessel, Vice President, Northwest Region, Georgia State Sons of the American Revolution was the wonderful Master of Ceremonies. The award-winning Georgia State Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard and Militia presented a beautiful program. Introductions of Special Guests and the History of Leonard Wills were presented by Charlotte Turner Berry, Librarian, Etowah Chapter, Georgia State Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Ten wreaths were laid in honor of this American Patriot which had to be placed on the ground at his gravesite due to high winds. Taps were played by Paul Lester, President, Edward Telfair Chapter, Georgia State Sons of the American Revolution. Mr. Dave Carmichael, Chairman, Paulding County Board of Commissioners had issued a proclamation designating October 29th as Leonard Wills day in Paulding County Georgia. This framed proclamation was presented by Charlotte Turner Berry to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church to commemorate the occasion. Miss Anna Mariah Searles, granddaughter of Charlotte Turner Berry served as Page for this event. Approximately 25 descendants of Leonard Wills were present for this occasion.
