Teacher Arrested for Gun on Campus
Paulding County, GA On March 30, 2017 at approximately 12:00 pm administrators at Shelton Elementary were alerted by a staff member that one of their teachers possibly had alcohol on her breath. At that point, Paulding County School District officials contacted the School Resource Officer (SRO) and launched an investigation into the incident.
When the SRO administered a portable alco-sensor evaluation to the teacher, she tested positive for alcohol. Per their policy, an additional evaluation was conducted a short time later which also resulted in a positive outcome.
At that point, school district personnel began a search of the classroom and adjacent areas to try and locate any possible open containers of alcohol. During that search, they discovered that the teacher had a loaded semi-automatic pistol in her purse. The purse was located on the floor underneath the desk which was within her classroom. The SRO then took possession of the pistol and officials continued their investigation. The teacher has been identified as Melanie Bullard (W/F 39 YOA). Bullard is a Kindergarten teacher at Shelton Elementary and was charged with the following offenses:
- - Possession of a Weapon on School Property (M)
- - Reckless Conduct (M)
Bullard was booked into the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center and is currently being held without bond.
