Paulding County Industrial Building Authority met last week for a special-called meeting and passed a Resolution to raise the bond amount for Dallas Memory Care (DMC), a senior living facility to be located in Dallas, Georgia. Bond Spokesperson Jim Woodward addressed the IBA board members regarding the request to hike original bond amounts from $8.5 million up to $11.5 million.
Paulding’s Board of Commissioners green-lighted an opportunity to establish a felony drug court program last week during their June session at the Watson Government complex in Dallas. A state grant will provide for the start-up of the program by January of next year, if not before, said Paulding Court Administrator Frank Baker at the Board’s morning session.

As a result of reaching out to the community on Social Media over the weekend, Detectives believe that they have the possible identity of the deceased male that was located on Friday July 3, 2015 in the area of Ridge Road in Paulding County. Detectives have collected DNA from a possible family member.
Georgia Highlands College is one of three recipients in Georgia to receive a $3,000 programming grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association. More than 200 libraries, museums, state humanities councils, historical societies and other nonprofits across the country were selected to receive grants.
Hiram City Council met on June 2 for their regular session, which followed a series of public hearings. The first was to consider a zoning application by Cobb Subs Inc. to rezone approximately .814 acres from R-2 (Suburban Residential District) to B-2 (Highway Business District). Matthew Momtahan, counsel for the applicant, spoke in support of the application.
After months of talks, the largest metro Atlanta health systems, WellStar and Emory University, opted not to merge WellStar announced last week. WellStar has five hospitals in northwest metro Atlanta, including WellStar Paulding and Kennestone Regional Medical Center in Marietta.
WellStar Paulding President Mark Haney announced at last week’s Chamber Luncheon that the expansion of Paulding’s 265,000 square foot hospital complex will move forward with two additional floors. The addition comes sooner than had been originally anticipated. And, last week, the WellStar Board approved the plan.
The Paulding Chamber of Commerce hosted Atlanta Regional Commission’s Katherine Zitsch. Ms. Zitsch is a manager of the Natural Resources Division and in that capacity knows a lot about Georgia water, ongoing water litigation with bordering states, and how best to manage that most important of natural resources.
