Mayor Boyd Austin Participates in “A Conversation With President Trump” at the White House
Dallas Mayor Boyd Austin was one of about 75 mayors from across the country invited to the White House for a “conversation” with President Donald Trump. The meeting took place on January 25, shortly before President Trump left for the World Economic Summit in Davos, Switzerland. The state of Georgia was well-represented with about 15 mayors from across the state present at the meeting in the East Room of the White House.
In his remarks to the mayors, President Trump touted the accomplishments of his administration in its first year in office. In addition to the historic tax reform package passed in December, the Trump Administration has been busy eliminating burdensome regulations and cutting red tape. All of this serves as a backdrop to President Trump’s announcement that he would like to see more than $1 trillion in infrastructure projects across the country.
Mayor Austin stated, “I am excited about President Trump’s plan for this country. He is looking to deliver projects on time and under budget, and a large portion of that is streamlining the permitting process—reducing some projects’ approval process from as much as a decade, or more, to two years or less. That will cut costs and provide momentum for the future. President Trump is making America great again.”
In addition to hearing from the President, the audience also heard from Vice President Mike Pence and members of the Executive Staff of the President and representatives of many federal departments. Following the formal meeting, the mayors were invited to a reception and more informal meeting with the departmental representatives.
This was Mayor Austin’s fifth meeting at the White House complex, but the first with the President. Austin said, “It is an honor and privilege to be a part of these meetings. And, it is refreshing to have an Administration that recognizes the importance and opinions of small cities.”
