Officer Leon Gibson of the Dallas Police Department was recognized by Dallas Mayor and Council during their meeting of January 5, 2015. The recognition came for Officer Gibson’s diligence when responding to a call at Vista Lake Subdivision, attentiveness which led to solving approximately 14 cases of entering autos. On December 19, 2014, Officer Gibson responded to a call in reference to three suspicious persons at Vista Lake. These persons, one adult and two juveniles, were stopping cars, asking for money and trying to get a ride back to Polk County. During his initial contact with the subjects, Officer Gibson noticed several suspicious items in their book bags. They were transported to the Dallas Police Department where they were interviewed and subsequently charged. Mayor Boyd Austin spoke on behalf of himself and the Dallas City Council as he thanked Officer Gibson as well as the other police officers and law enforcement personnel in attendance, for their service and dedication to their field. He acknowledged law enforcement members often place themselves in harm’s way in order to protect lives and property of those they serve. In closing, Mayor Austin announced his and council’s plan to pass a resolution to recognize Friday, January 9, 2015 as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day in the City of Dallas to recognize each member of the law enforcement community for their contributions and the service they provide to the City of Dallas.
