Hiram Advance To Final 4, Fall To Miller Grove
The Hiram Hornets basketball team advanced to the final 4 in the State tournament last week and came up short in the semifinal matchup against a tough Miller Grove squad from Lithonia by a score of 54-41.
The Hornets started the week off on Wednesday by downing Starr's Mill from Fayetteville on Wednesday in the quarterfinals. The Hornets led the game from start to finish and cruised to a 47-35 victory. The win earned the Hornets the right to travel to Fort Valley and play Miller Grove. This marked the 2nd time in school history that Hiram had reached the final for. The Hornets 2008 squad also reached the semis before falling to Wheeler High School.
The game against Miller Grove was a physical affair that was tightly officiated and the Hornets saw themselves trailing early and fighting uphill the entire game. The Hornets never had the lead but were tied at 5 early in the contest. Trailing 31-17 at the half the Hornets never gave up and were able to cut the lead to 10 points at one point. However, the Wolverines proved too much for the Hornets on this day as the aggressive defense the Hornets employed to get back in the game took its toll as 4 of the 5 starters fouled out. Nevertheless, the Hornets represented Paulding County well and fought until the clock ran out. Congratulations to the players and coaching staff for a memorable run and an exciting season.
