American Legion Post 111 Hosting Veteran’s Day Activities
It's going to be a busy weekend at American Legion Post 111! The Legion will be participating in the Atlanta Veteran’s Day Parade, host a Marine Corps Birthday celebration, kick off their annual “Toys for Tots” campaign, conduct a Veteran’s Day Service and finally, hold a Veteran’s Day Potluck luncheon.
On Saturday morning, the American Legion Riders will travel to Atlanta to participate in the Georgia Veterans Day Association, Inc.'s parade. This year’s theme is "The Battles Between the Wars, 1975 - 2000. It honors the generation of our military that “rebuilt our armed forces after the Vietnam War and trained the forces that answered our Nation’s call on September 11, 2001. They defended Freedom on the Korean DMZ, the Fulda Gap, and in Beirut, Bosnia, and Kosovo. They projected strength in operations like Grenada, Panama, Somalia, Desert Shield, and Desert Storm.” The parade organizers stated that “we look forward to showing the Veterans of this period that their service made a difference and our Nation is forever grateful.”
Saturday evening, the Post cordially invites Marines, Service members, Veterans of all branches, Legion family members and their invited guests as well as members of the public to celebrate the 243rd Birthday of the United States Marines and kick off Post 111’s “Toys for Tots” drive starting at 6:00 PM.
Mr. James Foy, Veteran, United States Marine Corps, will be our Master of Ceremonies. The keynote speaker will be Mr. Wayne Strickland, a Marine Veteran. Mr. Larry Sutton, a United States Air Force veteran and co-owner of “Lens Itself Photography” will be taking professional photographs at the event.
Please bring a snack to share for social hour and a new, store-bought toy, in its original packaging for “Toys for Tots.” The toys should not be gift wrapped. Toys will be accepted at the Post during normal business hours until December 16th.
