A local charity, just started last year, is looking for volunteers who can knit, crochet or sew to help make Happy Caps! They are called Happy Caps and they have already gifted 2,703 handmade, soft stylish hats to local cancer patients? They need volunteer “Cappers” to grow their mission: “To gift cheerful, handmade hats to cancer patients… to keep their head warm, to remind them that there are people who care and to make sure that when people stare, it’s because they have on such a cool hat!”
Kathy DeJoseph is a very grateful cancer survivor and she started Happy Caps to “pay it forward” by gifting soft, stylish hats to cancer patients - or anyone suffering hair loss due to a medical condition - each one signed with a personal message from the person who lovingly made that cap.
Happy Caps is an ALL-volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit and last year they gifted some of their handmade hats to Paulding, but mostly to Kennestone and Cobb hospitals because that was where the volunteers were. This year they want to add three infusion sites in Paulding and they need lots of volunteer “cappers” to knit, crochet or sew Happy Caps.Happy Caps can be made by a volunteer who wants to work on their own time to create caps at their own pace, or by a volunteer who makes caps as a member of a group; such as a church, senior center or club. When you sign your tags you can sign with your name, your groups name or both.
Kathy says it is a special blessing in her life to have met so many wonderful, generous people who volunteer to lovingly make Happy Caps or who support their efforts through donations and who together have joined her in making Happy Caps a dream come true.To learn more about Happy Caps or to volunteer visit www.happycapsatlanta.org or call Kathy at 770-653-9448
