Paulding County Farm Bureau Presents GFB Foundation for Ag Grant check to South Paulding High School Teacher

SP Check 800The mission of Paulding County Farm Bureau and our volunteers is to educate the members of our community of the importance of knowing where their food and fiber comes from. A big part of our goal is to work with educators and talk to children about Georgia's #1 industry, Agriculture. Through programs like the GFB Foundation for Agriculture, we offer four pillars to make this happen. Through Ag in the Classroom, we increase agricultural literacy among children and the general public. Less than 2% of the population lives on a farm and few people have any knowledge of how the food and fiber system works to provide us with food, clothing and shelter. PCFB donates a book every year to each elementary school or middle school that tells an agricultural story. Educational Outreach is the basis for the Foundation. Helping children understand how agriculture is very much a part of their everyday lives is another part of our goal. PCFB helps teachers increase their curriculum by offering agricultural materials such as work sheets, seeds and soil or hands on projects structured for the age group we are working with. We also offer volunteers to go into the classroom to help with these projects. The GFB Foundation for Agriculture offers scholarships to assist outstanding students who plan to pursue a career focusing on agriculture and who exhibit leadership skills. PCFB also offers 5 Jim Goodman Memorial Scholarships. Our final pillar is Leadership Development. Leadership development is critical for the state of Georgia. The Foundation supports Georgia 4-H and Georgia FFA and their mission to develop strong agricultural leaders to guide future generations. PCFB sponsors Paulding County FFA students to go to the Washington Leadership Conference. We hold an annual Agricultural Legislative Forum where local, state and national elected officials gather to be asked and answer agricultural questions. The Student Government Association members from all 5 high schools are invited to attend.
