Paulding County Library Services History Comes to Life!
In October of 2014, each of the four Paulding County Public Libraries revived a Library History Project to record the history of the libraries in scrapbook format. The books contain newspaper articles, library event photos, library correspondence, library awards, etc. This project was actually begun in 1979 when the Dallas Library (formerly named The Paulding County Library) was opened at 1010 East Memorial Drive. Mrs. Maybelle McGarity meticulously prepared professionally protected volumes of Library history for 10 years. When the library managers and I discovered the volumes in 2014, we decided along with the Paulding County Library Board that this wonderful tradition of library history preservation should be continued and shared with patrons.
That is when Betty Vollenweider, experienced and well-respected scrap booker volunteered her time and expertise to coordinate and guide the project among the four libraries. Betty and her committee have worked together over the last 3 years to fill in the gaps of the “lost years” since 1989. They started with most recent years and are working back to fill in the “lost years’ and have made significant progress with many new volumes added at each library. These beautifully bound volumes are available for patrons to view inside the library. If you would like to go through the library memory lane simply ask any Paulding County Library Staff Member. We hope you enjoy these new additions to our Reference Collection!
