DAR Honors Vietnam Vets
The 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War was March 29. The Captain Edward Hagin Chapter DAR honored Vietnam Veterans for their service with lunch in Cartersville, March 28. This lunch is hosted each year by DAR Service for Veterans Committee Chair Jo Prater. Helping to serve were Regent Eleanor Brinson Quigley, National Defense Chair and Treasurer Hilda Shipp, Recording Secretary Mary Linde, Registrar Lynn Harburn, and HODARs (Husband Of DAR). “Thank you for your service” was expressed individually to each of the approximately 70 veterans, who each was presented with an American flag. The Captain Edward Hagin Chapter DAR honored Vietnam Veterans for their service with lunch in Cartersville, hosted each year by DAR Service for Veterans Committee Chair Jo Prater. The DAR’s Mission is to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. The Captain Hagin Chapter has a number of local patriotic projects, including participating in Veterans Day and Memorial Day Ceremonies, serving lunch at the Veteran’s Clinic in Cartersville, presenting flags to the honored veterans at Cowboy Day at The Town of Ynot, delivering comfort bags for hospitalized veterans, donating books to the VA, and recognizing outstanding JROTC Students at the five high schools in Paulding County and one in Haralson County. Youth are also recognized as “DAR Good Citizens,” and the chapter will award a DAR Chapter Scholarship to a high school senior who plans to major in history in college. Constitution Week is recognized each year with a state luncheon, and Captain Edward Hagin features an exhibit at the local library. “Women in the Arts” will be recognized this year, featuring a local woman artist.
The DAR is a nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and securing America's future through better education, and consists of over 185,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the world.
