crase 800To better prepare civilians for active shooter events, the Chattahoochee Technical College Police Department will be offering free Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events training sessions on Saturday, May 21, at the college’s Paulding Campus, located at 400 Nathan Dean Blvd. in Dallas.
Participants can attend either a session from 10 a.m. to noon or a second session from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
“As Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council-certified officers, campus police conduct force-on- force training twice a year. It is also imperative that civilians have a plan for surviving an active shooter event. The free active shooter training sessions being offered at the Paulding Campus are designed to educate civilians on what they should do if faced with an active shooter event by providing strategies and guidance,” CTC Police Chief Charles Spann said.
The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events course is designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend strategy developed by ALERRT in 2004. Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, the role of professional guardians, civilian response options, medical issues and drills.
