Teaching as a Profession Mentor Appreciation
Casey Bethel, 2017 Georgia Teacher of the Year, spoke at Paulding’s Teaching as a Profession Mentor Appreciation event April 13, 2017. Teacher mentors and high school practicum students enjoyed Mr. Bethel speak about teaching being a noble profession. He talked about how he had conducted many genetic experiments and was not fulfilled until he started teaching. The Teaching as a Profession pathway allows high school students to earn college credit upon completion of three courses, portfolio, internship, and passing the end of pathway exam. Students shared their practicum experiences and how they realized teaching is more difficult than it seems. “It was a very rewarding experience being in the Teaching as Profession Pathway for the past two years. I enjoyed interning in several different classes at Dugan Elementary School and watching the children learn and grow in their education. I will be attending KSU in the fall to pursue early childhood education.”
