The Paulding County Patriots traveled to White Georgia Friday night to play the Cass Colonels. In a must win situation for both teams the Patriots came through in crunch time scoring 16 points in the 4th quarter to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The pivotal play came when Josh Singleton broke off the left side and blocked a Colonel punt which the Patriots recovered at the Cass 7 yard line. A 6 yard run by Jamal McIver put the ball on the one. From there Brantley Maudlin plunged in to tie the game at 21. Cass responded by kicking a 24 yard field goal to retake the lead with 5 minutes to play. The Patriots responded with a 75 yard game winning drive that took 7 plays and culminated with a Mauldin 16 yard touchdown pass to Jason Ledford. The Patriots defense forced a safety and were tasked after the Colonels recovered an on side kick. The Patriots defense intercepted a pass and then took a knee to end the game.
