An early morning fire in Hiram destroyed at least 4 homes, severely damaged 2 others, and caused heat & flame damage to at least 7 others. Crews are still operating on the scene at this time and no cause has been determined. Additional information will be forthcoming.
The Paulding County Patriots boys basketball team are headed to the State tournament for the second consecutive year. The Patriots earned the #3 seed from region 7 (5A). The Patriots defeated Kell and Cass to claim their spot in the State tournament.
Xinia Smith-Camacho was born in Costa Rica. Her first language is Spanish. In 2009, her family moved to America. The only way she could communicate was through her art. She has worked at GHC for three years. She said she is happy to work at a place where “people admire what she does.”
Local small business advocate and insurance agent, Sandy Kaecher, has announced her intent to seek the post 2 commission office. Kaecher believes her experience in small business ownership, as well as her board experience with local non-profits and being a business advocate for the Paulding Chamber will be a welcomed addition to a Board of Commissioners.
Hiram Elementary School has some very special athletes! These athletes represented HES at the 2018 Winter Olympics Bowling Tournament hosted at Stars and Strikes. Courtney Birchell earned a First Place ribbon.
The city of Hiram was recently the recipient of a Grant from a Georgia city government advocacy group that will be used to buy equipment to help it better protect its police officers. The Georgia Municipal Association Safety Grant to the city totaled $3,100 and will go toward the purchase of bulletproof vests for the Hiram’s Police Department.
