Recently, Students from the NPHS Fly Fishing & Cold Water Conservation Club had a great day fishing for trout in the Chattahoochee River. It was a rainy day, but all of the Students caught fish! They were assisted by members of the Cohutta Chapter of Trout Unlimited and North Georgia Trout Online.
Georgia Highlands College has appointed Melanie Largin as the new dean of Mathematics and Computer Science. Largin will oversee the Division of Mathematics, which includes areas of studies in mathematics, computer science, computer information systems, and more. Largin graduated with highest honors from Georgia Tech with a degree in industrial and systems engineering.
State Representative Paulette Rakestraw supported major tax relief legislation to cut taxes by $5 Billion over the next five years. Rep. Rakestraw serves as the Vice Chairman of Special Rules and the Science and Technology committees. She also serves on the Appropriations, Economic Development & Tourism, Juvenile Justice, Regulated Industries, and Small Business Development committees.
Chairman Carmichael held the first of four Town Hall meetings. These Town Hall meetings were designed to provide opportunities for the public to meet and interact with their local government representatives and officials in order to better understand pertinent issues within Paulding County. In addition to providing information for the citizens, interaction is a key component to ask and answer questions about these topics.

U.S. Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Eric T. Kimbrough graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, TX. Kimbrough is the son of Quinterra Gibbs of Hiram, and Charles Kimbrough Jr. of Douglasville, and 2016 graduate of Hiram High School, Hiram, Ga.
Seventy local 5th-graders recently visited Cobb EMC for the electric cooperative’s 27th annual Career Day event. Elementary students spent the morning job shadowing employees across the company before joining their teachers and parents for a luncheon hosted by Cobb EMC.
A Hiram High School junior was arrested for Terroristic Threats. Deputies obtained a video from the school bus and confirmed that a female student stated multiple times that she would “shoot up the school”.
Deputy Don Apperson of the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Youth Services Division was awarded the Paulding County Board of Commissioners Public Safety Award. Deputy Apperson was awarded the Commissioner’s Public Safety Award for his exemplary service to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office.
