State Farm agents know first-hand the trauma a family faces following a devastating house fire. That's one reason why the state's largest home insurer is taking a proactive approach to working with local fire departments to help communities reduce house fires. Dallas State Farm agent Suzanne Whitworth is donating a fire prevention kit to the Paulding Fire Department ahead of the National Fire Protection Association Fire Prevention Week.
Beginning August 3, 2020, Tallatoona will begin accepting appointments for the LIHEAP CARES Cooling Assistance Program for the General Public. All households that did not receive LIHEAP CARES Cooling Assistance during the month of July 2020 are eligible to apply for assistance with their electric bill.
Paulding County Board of Commissioners approved grants for the two accountability courts last week. One for Paulding’s Felony Drug Court and another for the more recently established court geared to defendants with mental health issues.
Paulding Boys and Girls Club may be forced to shut down after receiving an ultimatum from the organization on July 6th that will require the local chapter to do some fundraising to avoid closing. The club has until October 1st to meet certain criteria and raise about $200,000 in order to be allowed to continue.
The Paulding Judicial Circuit Drug Court Program celebrated its eighth graduation on Friday, July 10, 2020. Since its creation in January 2016, the program has inducted ninety-seven participants, forty- two of whom have now graduated. Given Covid-19 concerns, the graduation was semi-virtual. Only the six graduates and a limited number of supporters, including the Drug Court Team, attended in person. Other participants and community members tuned in remotely via Zoom. Masks were worn but were removed for photographs.
Congratulations to Jamiah Mott who was awarded the 10th annual Zachary Williamson Memorial Scholarship. Jamiah graduated this year from North Paulding High Schools Class of 2020 in Paulding County, GA.
Paulding County Schools starting back Monday, August 3, 2020, the Paulding County Sheriff's Office is reminding drivers to remain alert when driving in school zones or adjacent to school buses to ensure the safety of our children who are being transported on Paulding County roadways. Paulding County Sheriff Gary Gulledge reminds motorists that Deputies will be patrolling school zones as part of their daily operations and that they will also be watching for drivers that fail to stop for school buses that are loading or unloading passengers.
Paulding County’s Richland Creek Reservoir (RCR) is now – incrementally – in the process of taking in water and has reached the one-third level by the start of July. By 2021 the RCR will begin to function as the county’s primary water source far into the future.
Carroll Electric Membership Cooperative has selected eight local individuals as the 2020 recipients of the Lineman School Scholarships. Carl Cooke, Wynston Denney, Zeb Hand, Jake Harrod, Brystol Phillips, Caden Raines, Benjamin Ranger, and Nathan Urquhart were awarded scholarships to attend a lineman school in Georgia.
