The North Paulding Wolfpack traveled to Spartan country and downed the Spartans 4-1 in a non-region match-up last week. Both squads are having good seasons thus far and are likely to be playoff bound at seasons end. South Paulding is 4-0 and tied for first place in their region.
The Paulding County 4-H Forestry Judging team recently competed at the Northwest District Forestry Judging Competition in Conyers, Georgia. The team consisted of Junior and Senior 4- H’ers who spent 6 weeks preparing for the competition. 4-H’ers from 10 counties in North Georgia competed in the Forestry Field Day event.
Michelle Miller and Monica Rydza, Work-Based Learning Coordinators from Paulding County School District have been awarded the title of “Top Gun WBL Educator” through a partnership between the Georgia Department of Education’s Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education division; the Career, Technical and Agricultural Education Resource Network; and the Work-Based Learning/Youth Apprenticeship Affiliate of the Georgia Association for Career and Technical Education.

Abney Elementary teacher, Jodie Henson, is getting much closer to reaching the goal of raising $15,000 to purchase tablets, keyboards, cases, and stylus, “technology kits” for the students in her classroom thanks to donations from sponsors such as Depew Orthodontics. The purpose of this technology initiative is for the students in Mrs. Henson’s class to use technology on a daily basis to enhance daily classroom experiences.
Various Paulding city-and-county officials and representatives from Paulding County public health, emergency management, law enforcement, education, healthcare, and public safety recently met for a presentation from a representative of the Georgia Department of Public Health’s (DPH) Office of Emergency Preparedness to discuss and begin planning for a statewide emergency preparedness drill.
Winning silver in 25m Junior Women’s Sport Pistol was Katelyn Abeln (Douglasville, Georgia). Abeln entered the Final with a score of 576, the fifth-highest score in Qualification. Qualifying for the Final as well in the top position was Sarah Choe(Los Angeles, California), who finished the match with a score of 582 – a score that would have put her just two points out of a potential Finals berth in the Open (Adult) 25m Women’s Sport Pistol competition at this year’s World Championship.
Rep. Tom Graves today voted for and the House passed the Energy and Water, Legislative Branch, and Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act (H.R. 5895). The bill provides annual funding for the Department of Energy, the Legislative Branch of the federal government, the Department of Veterans Affairs and military construction projects.
Speaker David Ralston recently appointed State Representative Micah Gravley to serve as the co-chair of the Joint Study Commission on Low THC Medical Oil Access. The committee’s first meeting was held in Atlanta at the Capitol. Several more meetings will follow around the state in the coming weeks on a variety of related topics.
