Chattahoochee Technical College Board of Directors Chairman Mark Haney, Senior VP of Construction and Real Estate for WellStar Health System, hosted a meeting of the college’s Board of Directors on Tuesday, June 11, at the WellStar Health System Development Center.
The Georgia Highlands College nursing program has been ranked number two in the nation for paramedics looking to expand their careers by becoming a registered nurse. RegisteredNursing.org, an organization based out of California, awarded GHC’s program the second-place spot in its 2019 Best Paramedic to RN Programs list.
Chattahoochee Technical College honored more than 400 students who petitioned to graduate from the state’s largest technical college in two commencement ceremonies held on Thursday, May 16, at the Clarence Brown Conference Center in Cartersville. Crossing the stage to receive associate degrees, diplomas and technical certificates of credit were 200 graduates representing more than 30 programs of study.
Abney Elementary 3rd through 5th graders attended Career Crew which is a monthly after-school club. East Paulding High School (EPHS) students visited Abney to share knowledge of their high school career pathways and related careers. Abney students also learned employability skills and participated in many fun group activities.

Recently, Environmental Science students from North Paulding High School conducted a campus cleanup in celebration of Earth Day. Students filled over 50 large bags with trash. They also found an old grill, chairs, buckets, foam blocks and more.

Four students from Tema Hoskins, South Paulding High School Environmental Science program was recently chosen to present a poster at Upcoming Georgia Adopt a Stream’s annual “Confluence” conference. The students, Annabelle Renner, Melinda Downey, Destini Chambers, Lyric Portwood, and Montgomery Blake are presenting their project that investigated the disparity between the pH of the water and soil in the campus wetland and look at pH effects on plant health.
EPHS DECA heads to Orlando, FL in April for DECA’s International Career Development Competition.
Georgia Highlands College was listed by Rice University-based publisher OpenStax as one of the top 10 schools that have served the most students with the adoption of free college textbooks in the 2017-18 school year. GHC was one of only two colleges in Georgia listed. The University of Georgia also made the list. To date, GHC has saved students over $6 million by eliminating textbook costs and providing free digital options.
Chattahoochee Technical College Director of Counseling Cheri Mattox-Carroll has been named Counselor of the Year by the Georgia College Counseling Association (GCCA). A 24-year employee of the college, Mattox-Carroll is a licensed professional counselor, with board certification in telemental health, as well as a licensed certified professional counselor supervisor.
Clipper Petroleum, an ExxonMobil fuel distributor based in Flowery Branch, Georgia in partnership with the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance Program, announced today it has awarded 63 grants to K-12 schools in Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina as part of its commitment to support and strengthen local communities.
