Another part of the Paulding County Richland Creek Water Supply Program construction was recently begun on a major water pipeline along the Highway 61 right of way from the Water Treatment Plant site (North of Harmony Grove Church Road) down to Walraven Place. The construction of this 11-mile long pipeline will take approximately 12 months to complete.
Hiram High school hosted the first annual Paulding / Douglas county rifle team shoot off. Every High school from each county that has a rifle team, came together this past Saturday (December 2nd) and faced off against each other.
December 3rd several students from the NPHS Fly Fishing & Cold Water Conservation Club fished the trophy trout waters of Unicoi Outfitters, Nacoochee Bend, in Helen Ga. During Thanksgiving break, students of the Club assisted the Georgia Department of Natural Resources with stocking trout into the Chattahoochee River.
Chattahoochee Technical College has named educator Christine Hord as its new director of Adult Education. Hord has a strong background in adult education with 20 years of working in the Cobb/Paulding Adult Education program.
The Hiram Hornet wrestling program hosted the Cass Colonels and also the Alexander Cougars for a meet Thursday at Hiram High School. Nothing new there, but this time the Alexander GIRLS would be facing Hirams girls in the first-ever dual meet.
This week Georgia Highlands College will hold a First-Generation Student Celebration for all students, faculty, and staff who are or were first-generation college students in their family.
House Republicans and Democrats introduced legislation to nullify a controversial rule that would effectively ban millions of consumers from accessing short-term, small-dollar credit. The rule was issued by the former director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) shortly before he left office.
Athletes from Paulding County competed in the State Cross Country Championships. North Paulding qualified the girl's team by finishing 3rd in Area 2 7A meet. South Paulding qualified their boy's team by finishing 4th in Region 5 6A. Hiram qualified both teams for state, girls finished 4th, and guys 2nd in Region 7 5A. East Paulding qualified both teams for the state as well, girls finished 3rd, and guys 3rd in Region 7 5A.
The top six students were presented with framed prints of their essays. The top three winners received gift cards, while fourth, fifth and sixth-place students received $25 gift cards. The school’s first place winner, Hailey Dufresne, was recognized before the Paulding County Board of Education as the Russom Elementary student who best exemplifies patriotism.
